Salads such as the Large House Salad with artichoke hearts and Parmesan or the crisp Large Caesar Salad with homemade croutons balance the richness of the entrees, and can be enhanced with added chicken or salmon for a satisfying freshness.
Classic desserts like the smooth, creamy Cheesecake provide a sweet conclusion to the rich Italian feast. Pair your meal with a well-chosen glass of Negroni, Prosecco, or a crisp white wine for a complete sensory journey.

We met some friends here for dinner after a musical on a Sunday and it was wonderful. They had been here a few times and it was our first visit. The interior of the restaurant is a little bit dated and kind of old, but that’s no big deal because the food is amazing!! There were a great variety of people here, including couples friends, and multiple tables put together for big families. This Brookside gem has a fantastic wait staff! Our server was wonderful and she had a back up that was very competent in making sure our drinks were kept full. The wine list was impressive for a small place like this. I enjoyed a nice Shiraz from Australia. We had some delicious mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. I ordered the Chicken Spiedini Oscar and my wife had the tortellini. Both of them were excellent. They arrived at our table piping hot. We were very pleased. We can’t wait to return to Carmen‘s Café to sample their lasagna and other dishes.
We went on a Friday when they are open for lunch, it wasn't crowed although we were there at 11am. Service was outstanding, everyone was great. I had the crab cakes and the stuffed artichoke with crab and shrimp added. Husband had the Lasagna. Very tasty. We recommend and will return.
Visited this establishment for the first time. Our party was seated relatively quick for the size of our group. The waiter (Sean) was very attentive making many passes by our group to check on our status and make sure we had everything we needed. The timing of our order from salad to entree was very good. Carmen's Cafe likes garlic however done tastefully, just keep a mint on hand post meal. Service was excellent but would have really enjoyed garlic bread of some type with my meal. All meals received good reviews all around the table. Portion size was good as well, everyone had a little to take home.
Italian dining in the heart of Brookside. Stopped here at 4:30 for an early dinner on Halloween . We were quickly seated at a large window looking out onto the sidewalk, we watched the children (and some adults) in costumes hitting up the businesses in Brookside for candy. The staff (and diners) were slightly distracted by the kids, but we weren't ignored. They provided a unique experience. Charming building and intimate atmosphere was still somewhat romantic amongst the chaos of Halloween. We ordered Don's Artichoke to start (fine selection), fiĺled with shrimp, crab, prosciutto, & bread crumb. I had the Salmon Diablo; Salmon, shrimp, & scallops smothered in a Diablo sauce. My wife really enjoyed the sweet wine. We will certainly return with our friends in the future.
Very nice surprise In Kansas City found this little Italian restaurant and managed to get seats at the bar after a short wait and it was so worth it. Let's start with everyone around me recommending the Italian butter. It was exactly that butter with parsley and tons and tons of garlic and olive oil. You will spoon it, dip it onto bread or like me you may just put on everything you can find or drink it straight from the bowl it came in. The restaurant had a great selection of spirits for all kinds of drinks and an excellent wine menu and plenty of desserts to choose from. I had the angel pomodoro pasta it was perfectly cooked. The pomodoro was on a point plenty of fresh tomatoes and just the right serving I paired that with an excellent recommended wine I wish I had gotten the name of the wine but I will be back. What I loved with sitting at the bar is that you are sitting in the kitchen a little kitchen that cooked some excellent food. Just looking at the photos I took make me want to go back there and I will before I leave Kansas City this week.
Meeting to discuss business. I had not been here before. This was a nice place to be introduced to! Every item we tried was delicious . We will add this on our list of places to come back very soon. If you are in the are I suggest giving it a try!
I took 5 grandkids for a quick dinner after spending all-day @ the KC Zoo and could not have been more pleased. They had full reservations starting just in about an hour from our arrival but seated us anyway! The server made recommendations for kids meals and we got our order placed promptly. The complimentary bread was a hit and EVERYONE loved their spaghetti and chicken Alfredo! I had manicotti that was to die for! We finished and were able to leave in time for them to reset the table for reservations! Kids wanted to go back the next day and really enjoyed “the fancy place”.
